Are businesses allowed to discriminate against disruptive customers? |
Specifically, is a restaurant allowed to deny service to and/or ask to leave parents with disruptive or noisy children? "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" Well your question is mean spirited, but it would seem that they are allowed to discriminate. Just ask any smoker. depends on the establishment, most are able to ask disruptive customers to leave if they are REALLY disturbing other consumers, but not just crying babies or anything along that line. Yes they are allowed. It is not discrimination, many business do it to keep the majority of their customers happy. But, they don't have to, it is up to the restaurant. The only way around that, I would think, is bars that require all customers be 18 or over. Otherwise, it's a case-by-case situation. One thing the business needs to consider: if the customers that are sent away decide to contact the press and the restaurant gets known for discriminating against families, the bad publicity could hurt that restaurant's business. |
