1099-MISC for service rendered, but not a "business"?

Hi, I have worked for a company last year to provide my expertise in reorganizing their files, and doing some secretarial work (and worked on a few projects). I am not a registered business owner, but instead I provided a service. Last week, I received a 1099-MISC from that company, and from doing some research, it appears that I need to file a 1040 schedule C, along with a 1040 SE. My question is, can I file a scedule C, even though I have never registered (and filled paperwork with county, city, state) myself a a business owner last year? Thank you in advance!

Yes... It must be on your schedule C. You do not need to be a registered business or anything of the sort.

I have hobby on the side... It's no more than a hobby, but it brings in enough money that I get 1099's from a couple companies....

If you have any expenses associated with this income, you can classify it as so within the schedule C.

I'm not your best source...but I think there is a 1040 C-EZ that would be more applicable to you. And yes, you can do that even if you aren't technically a business owner.

Yes, it has nothing to do with you being a business, but a self-employed worker. Any person who earns income from "contract" work receives a 1099-MISC instead of a W-2.

Yes, you can however you will be notified, by the city you are working in that you may be operating a business illegaly (without a license) same thing happend to me.

I should have had someone else do my taxes that year.
