Anyone know of any good boarding barns in Central MD?

I have already devoured the local subscriptions like the Equirey and the PVDA listings but I have found nothing, except for a few places. I currently board at a nice place (will not list name due to protection of the innocent) with excellant care and wonderful facilites! There was an incident that occured not long ago that I will not go into any details about and now we have decided to move our business to another place! I currently ride dressage and have no interest in jumping what so ever. We have looked at a few places, Windsor Manor Stables (wonderful place and we really want to go there, but it's full and according to the boarders, nobody leaves there, which means that it's a very friendly atmosphere but we probably won't be able to get a stall for a long time!) Hullfields LLC (beautiful barn and nice, small paddocks, I have an easy keeper who gets fat on grass, but a bit too expensive for us if we're driving to where it is) and we will look into Morgan Run Stables, we haven't visited it yet, but we have called them. We really, really like Windsor Manor and are on the waiting list to get in there and I think now our priority is to get out off our current barn and into a temporary place until a spot opens up at Windsor Manor. Do any of you know of some good boarding places in Central MD? Frederick County is too far for us, and Anne Arundel County is going into the traffic, Carrol County might be good if it's on the border of or close to Howard County, same with Baltimore and Montgomery Counties. I will not go to Potomac Horse Center or Columbia Horse Center! And if not adverstising places is there any private farms that don't advertise but take in a few horses just for fun or to afford bills? Thanks in advance!

I unfortunately live in an area where there aren't any farms, you have good suggestion but we live in a very ubran area, Elkridge, and everything is all out west! The closest farms to me are Columbia and Potomac Horse Center! Anything in Mt. Airy is too far for us. I used to board at a place near Pleasant Prospect called Sunset Hill (you can't miss it, it's the one with a statue of a big rearing horse in front and a buttload of signs!), and the fields look great, but I don't know anything about the footing of their outdoor. I know some people at Talbot Run from Pony Club and that could be an option, especially since Talbot Run is so cheap! Greystone is too far, I don't know where exactly Waredaca is but I know it's too far, and thanks for the tip about the bad fences, I do have a mare! Skyline is again too far! Thanks I'll definately look into Talbot Run!

I can't believe you didn't find something good in the Equiery - there are TONS of stables in the central MD area! I've lived in MD most of my life, but have never boarded anywhere. You didn't really say what it is you are looking for.

You might want to check out Talbot Run in Mt. Airy. I think it's relatively new but has a huge indoor and is run by a Pony Club family. www.talbotrun.com

How about Skyline Farm off of Hawkins Creamery Rd. near Laytonsville?

Greystone Farm in Sunshine, MD (near Waredaca) has a dressage base, but I wouldn't board there if you have a mare. Mares get the back field which has horrible fencing.

Have you looked at Pleasant Prospect Farm on Jenning's Chapel Rd. off of route 97? It's a beautiful farm and they specialize in fox hunting, but might be a nice temporary location. I don't know what facilities they have, but their pastures look nice from the road.

I haven't been to Morgan Run either, but they are somehow linked to Sunshine Kids Club summer camp and they supply the camp horses.

The Equiery has a small text only ad for a place in Mt. Airy called "Our Farm" (eventing). I have only driven by ther, but they do have an indoor.

I would suggest driving around your target area and stopping in when you see farms that might look promising. There are plenty to pick from and I wouldn't restrict your search to a dressage only facility.

Did you check the online Equiery stable directory? It might have more in it than the magazine does: http://www.equiery.com/ridingBoardingSta...

Maybe some of these will help...
