WHERE WAS the Center for Disease Control?HOW DID THESE PEOPLE GET INTO THE U.S.?

EMPORIA 鈥?When hundreds of Somali refugees began showing up to work at the meatpacking plant, nurses Lori Torres and Renee Hively were among the first to get to know the exotic, new arrivals.
"We got notified a day in advance that 70 Somalis were being transferred from a (Tyson Foods) plant in Nebraska," Hively recalled. "That 70 soon grew into 400, seemingly overnight."...Torres is the case manager for about 160 Somalis in Emporia who have been diagnosed with latent tuberculosis....
Section 212(a)(1) of the Immigration and Nationality Act states that aliens with specific health-related conditions are ineligible to receive visas and ineligible for admission into the United States.
Let us put Tyson Foods out of business!
No extraordinary measures needed.
No time out of your day
Just don't buy anything made by Tyson Foods

Tyson is not only about chicken. They sell beef and pork products, including baconhttp://cjonline.com/stories/112507/kan_2...

That is very interesting. immigrants cannot enter the US if they are ill. TB is very contagious. What the hell is going on at Immigration? That's quite a lot of people coming in too.

I consider Tyson a banned product. How uncaring. They tout their products and this is what we get? I also banned Levi's when I found out they went to Mexico for cheap labor.

The CDC was in Atlanta and they got in on refugee status.

Your story is almost a year old, the threat is over. Tyson food products are now safe and then would have been safe also. Unless you're in the habit of eating uncooked food TB isn't a threat to consumers of meat. Raw vegetables and fruits are another story. I don't get the point of this since we aren't about to close our country to every other nation in the world.

So, Tyson has brought us:

1. the Clintoons;
2. Some Jihad holiday for workers (presumably arabs replacing illegal Mexicans)
3. illegal Mexicans; and
4. TB

Chicken is not very good, to boot.

A bit of a rant but one that is needed no doubt.

I must say, at least TYSON FOODS requires their workers to have health insurance to work for them.
I'd like to think this keeps them out of our hospital emergency rooms where many would not likely pay their bills properly. Like some of our Southern neighbors.

Simply put, our government is not doing its job properly. Add to that that too many people both legal and illegal are being allowed to come onto our soil too quickly and you have the makings of what surely is a disaster and will get only worse unless these things are changed soon.

It's not clear here if these people entered the US as refugees or some other way and then applied for asylum. Refugees and immigrants are tested for TB and other diseases. People who come in on nonimmigrant visas are not, and of course illegal immigrants aren't tested at all. Lots of Somalis enter illegally but many do come in as refugees, so it isn't possible to know if these folks were ever tested or not without checking everyone's immigration record. Probably some were, but not all.

Strictly speaking, a person has to have active infectious TB in order to be ineligible to come in as a refugee or immigrant. Inactive TB is not an ineligibility and from what you're saying here, it doesn't appear anyone has active TB. If they do, they are prevented from entering the US as an immigrant or a refugee until they have gone through treatment and are found to no longer have active TB. that can take a year or more, unless they have a drug resistant strain, in which case they may never enter, depending how treatment goes.

If these Somalis present a health risk at Tyson's, the local health authorities have the responsibility and the authority to take any action necessary.
