Visiting New York...need itinerary?

I will be in NY w/ husband who will be on business. We are staying in the Financial district. We have Sunday noon and evening together... then he will be working, and I will be on my own Mon-Thurs...meeting up with him at night. I have not been in 20 yrs... this is what I have on my list to do...
Central Park
the Met
Rockafeller Center
Soho?
little Italy
Canal st to find som bargains...
Empire stare building..
Time Square
what would be a good show to take in?
ground Zero
I am on a budget so can't be too carefree, would like to know of a restaurant that would have a great view of the city.
fun shopping? I heard SoHo
I guess I need to start with a map and plan it right...
Any advice????

Since you and the hubby have only one afternoon and evening together;

The afternoon - Go for brunch at the River Cafe (a very short ride over the Bklyn Bridge from the financial district) on Sunday afternoon . Great views of NYC and a very nice restaurant.

For the evening time take advantage of the Talent here in NYC. Look in the village voice for a concert/show of your choice. Consider The Blue Note or BB Kings or etc...

As for your solo time, it's tough touring without the Hubby, but do enjoy. I'll make a suggestion for your choices:

Central Park - The Zoo is really nice as is the Boathouse (good place in the Park to grab a bite to eat)

The Met - If you are referring to the Metropolitan Museum DO GO it is a world class Museum with some spectacular exhibits.

Rockefeller Center - Skip the Empire State Building and Go to the Top of the Rock. Yes ESB is taller, but from the 'Top' you can get the view and a picture of the ESB.

Soho, Little Italy, Canal St is a single trip - Grab a bite to eat in China Town, get capacino and desert in Little Italy and then go a few blocks West to B'way and shopping in Soho.
..
Time Square I'm not a big fan of Times Square, but in the evening it can be some great Photo ops. The Wax museum may interest you.

Ground Zero. I work in the Financial District and tend to avoid this spot. but, I understand why you would want to go there. I have so many memories at the Trade Center. Fell to sleep in the Plaza there one Night with the cutest intern (her and I had to many shots at the Greatest Bar On Earth -a wonderful place). Some folks put together a memorial Website - http://www.chicagobarproject.com/Memoria...

However do take the time to discover the Financial District. Go to City Hall Park (Brooklyn Bridge has a pedestrain walk), Go down B'Way south and left on Fulton St to the South St Seaport, Walk down Warter to Wall and head west to Bway where you will find the NY Stock Exchange and Federal Hall (Washington was inaugurated there) then go into Trinity Church (in the Graveyard is Alexander Hanilton). Go further South on B'way and visit the Customs house it is gorgeous and now houses the Smithsonian American Museum of the American Indian (all of the above is free).

At the end of B'way is Battery Park and South Ferry (Junp on the Ferry (Free) and get great shots of the Lady Liberty and a view of Manhattan from Upper NY bay.

BTW across from the Ferry entrance is the Church and residence of Elizabeth Ann Seton - The first US Saint. Right behind the Church is a plaque on the Wall noting the birthplace of Herman Melville (Mopy Dick was written there.

enjoy nyc and welcome back!

here are some suggestions and tips from our personal experience:

we went to NY for a week.
we had a blast!!!

you should visit Serendipity for dessert :)

there's a book called Lonely Planet (NYC)
it is a really really helpful book for tourists like us because it includes walking tours, etc, and places to eat.

by the way, instead of waiting for hours in line to get to the statue of liberty, you may opt to have the NY waterway tour instead. This way, you will save enough time to tour other parts of the city :)

there's also the famous BULL at the financial district :)
you should also try the yummiest Pizza Margherita at 'Lil Frankie in East Village ^,^

if you have more time, try walking the stretch of Brooklyn Bridge.

this serves as an exercise too.. hihihi
also, do visit Saint Patricks's Cathedral at 5th avenue.
