Is a sony cybershot dsc f 828 a good camera to start a photography business?

I have a sony cybershot dsc f 828. I want to know if this is a good camera to get started with photography. I want to eventually have my own business. I want to start off slow and take better pictures. For now I am thinking of going to The Art Center Design College. Has anyone ever gone there? If so, is it a good idea to go. Is it hard to get in?I do not know much of photography but I know that that is what I want to do as far as my career goes.

Well, if you've never taken pictures seriously before, it's okay, as it has most of the manual modes you need, and a decent Carl Zeiss lens with an OK range (about 28 mm to 200 mm 35 mm equivalent). It's an older digital, so many of the features have been upgraded, and the relatively small sensor combined with the relatively high megapixel count (8) means lots of noise and poorer image quality.

Most pros will use pro-quality SLR cameras (where you can switch out the lenses) and pro-quality lenses (that can be thousands of dollars per lens). Pros will also use film, and almost every good pro needs to know her way around a darkroom.

But I also think that most pros will say that, to begin learning, your equipment is secondary to actually learning how to take a good shot -- how to frame correctly, and balance contrast, and make a visually interesting subject. Your camera, on manual mode, should give you enough control so that you can learn how to balance ISO, shutter speed, and aperature to get the basics of how to operate a camera down. The one thing it's missing is a hotshoe to allow an external flash (if you start taking pictures indoors, you'll quickly learn how pathetic most consumer camera flashes are).

How do you know that you want to be a photographer if you don't know much about photography? Photography is art and science; it's either about shooting children at Glamour Shots all day, shooting weddings every weekend, or struggling to make a living selling art prints when people say "well, it's just a photograph; I can do that."

You've started right, though -- start taking pictures. Hundreds of them, of every subject. Read books on photography to learn how to do it right Maybe take community college courses before you go for an actual art school, so you can build up a portfolio.

Good luck!

We use the Canon Rebel XTi at the Art Institute. It's a nice camera, and the price has dropped a lot since the newer version (the XSi) will be coming out soon.

If you need to ask what kind of camera you need for a business, then you really shouldn't start one.

Generally, an advanced point and shoot does not have the quality to support a professional level photographic venture.
