Moving to Chicago subburbs, any advice?

I am looking to move to the Chicago area. I want within 30 of the city center. My husband and I are a young business couple with a dog, looking to start a family, in a quiet safe neighborhood. Right now I am looking in the Lockport area, or Naperville if there is anything in our price range :) Does anyone have any information that may help us choose a location. Thanks!

40 miles would be do-able, just close enough to commute to the city for work. I suppose safe (where I can walk the dog at night) is more important than quiet.

Naperville is a great place to raise a family. The schools are excellent and the area is very pretty. You can also in Elmhurst, it's an older historic town. Geneva is a great place to live - more the small town atmosphere and very picturesque. Places to stay away from - West Chicago, Joliet, Addison, Villa Park.

Work with a good realtor - and they will point you in the right direction. Visit the neighborhoods at different hours, stop and chat with neighbors that are out while you're there, visit the park district building - those are all great ways to decide which area you fit into best.

Good luck with your move.

what is your price range
Napervile is a real nice area to live
you might have to farther look out to find quiet
maybey the 40 mile raduis

i dont like naperville. but i love shaumburg! its not that big, and its like a tiny chicago with a good number of ppl.

Move to Geneva! its a lot better than Naperville or Shaumburg trust me. A lot of people move to Naperville or Schaumburg just cuz they don't know where else to go. But Geneva is 36 miles from the loop and you can take the train 2 the city. Its a really nice area and if u have kids it has the best schools in Kane County.

Naperville or Schaumburg are your best bets. Schaumburg is a little bit cheaper than Naperville. Roselle is next door to Schaumburg and a great place to raise a family in a more quiet setting.

Go just one city over and look into Aurora. "City of Lights"
