Staples.. Office Max.. good places to build some copy/print experience?

I'm a graphic design student with years of retail exp. Want to know if the copy/print center at retail stores like this will help me build any good experience.

What do they do there exactly? Do they design or just print what the customers provide.. I remember reading something about designing flyers, brochures, business cards at Staples? I'd just like any info.. thanks.

I feel it would be a great reference. I would also look into working at Kinkos (they do alot of copy/print work more than Staples/Office Max) and I would also look at working at your local newspaper printing factory, and also look under "printing" in your local yellow pages. There are MANY privately owned printing businesses.

As to what they do. From my observations, they print anywhere from business brochures, menus, wedding invitations, booklets for huge events, etc. Yes, usually, the customer will provide what they want a place like Kinko's wants. With a private printing business, you will more than likely see custom work.....business cards, help with the design of a particular document to be printed.

Kinkos would be better.

For the most part, staples does not offer design services. The customers bring in pre-designed products that they need copied, or they are given a template and fill in the blanks. Business cards are all on pre-designed templates, and the customer just fills in the information (name, phone number, etc.)

If design is necessary, staples sends it to a design service.

In any case, it will provide a good reference.
