Should day-care centers be allowed in residential neighborhoods?

A lot of young couples starting out these days seem to have a solution to paying the mortgage and keeping mom at home tending the hearth: Opening a daycare center and making their yards into playgrounds and the driveway a delivery and pickup center. Is this in fact a statement to the rest of the neighborhood,
If you don't like the noise and the traffic, you can move out
because we don't care? Noise and traffic are growing concerns in our nations cities, towns and villages. Why compound the problem by allowing businesses such as day-care centers in residential neighborhoods? Is there any way to know these days before you buy a home whether it is zoned for or against such businesses?

If your area is zoned as residential and you feel encumbered by the businesses operating in your area such as a daycare, your recourse is to complain to the zoning board.

Zoning boards typically turn a blind eye when it comes to home-based businesses but they always act when neighbors complain. It can be due to the increased traffic, too-much comings-and-goings of vehicles, parking of customers in the street, noise or for other reasons. Once the neighbors complain, the board reviews the business and can shut them down.

Contact the zoning board -- better yet, mobilize other neighbors -- and contact the zoning board together and they will most likely listen to you and shut down the business. Of course, you won't make any friends with the business owner, but I guess at this point you just want the business out of your area anyway.

Of course daycares should be allowed...as long as they follow all licensing/training requirements.

why don't you yourself bring it up as an issue at your local city hall? This is exactly how rezoning gets talked about. You would find out if some other people have similar concerns or even if there is already a little lobby group, or you could start your own.

Why not that is where the people that need them are.

thats a very good quistion it would depend on the neiborrhood ,hours of bussnis ,and distance so ,there sould be some exceptions to that, so
yes

they're in many of those types of neighborhoods because thats where all of the kids are. if they are too loud, talk to someone from the town/meetings.

Most community residential plats allow 2 oddball things: daycare and beauty shops. If the transportation causes issues, the city or county needs to address it and resolve it.
