Do I NEED a degree in business to....?

open my own business? For example: I want to open a center for the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect. I know I will need several licenses and what not, but a degree in business? Couldn't I just hire an accountant, or someone else with a degree to do the business part of everything, so I can focus on the purpose of my center?

What if I wanted the Governement to help fund and/or participate? Like having the government send abusive parents to my center for parenting classes and evaluations to become better educated about abuse.

You don't need a business degree to run a business. It helps, but it is not required. I would suggest taking a class or two in accounting and general business. That will help you find a person to help you run the business and it will let you know what to look for so whomever you hire won't rip you off.

You need to know about things like segregation of duties, so that you can maintain proper controls over your assets. You might also want to take a class in grant writing and dealing with government programs. If you hire this stuff to be done, the more you know allows you to ask intelligent questons when you interview. That way, you will know the person you are hiring is capable of doing the job.
