Can anyone tell me, roughly, the steps i must take to open my own business, and also a ballpark figure??

its going to be either a youth center thingy, or a barbershop/hair salon

Whatever u choose, I wish u the best of luck. 'Going for it' is what makes America great. I've had a few businesses along the way - w/ hard work - I always made xclnt $$$.
Here's a few tips I found vry helpful:

a) Cutting hair is a vocation of common law Right, so no Business License is required. (it's was the supr crt says). So u have nothing to report to the IRS and /or state tax officials. Thus, I have not and still do not possess any type of 'biz license'. (1 case is the Miranda case - it will makes sense when /if u read it.)

b) If u have 'workers' they only have to prove Citizenship, once they do that, they DO NOT have to provide Soc Sec #'s - thus if don't have to match SS funds.

c) As ur biz grows and u take on 'workers', 'rent the chairs' - they pay u (cash /check).

d) Also, no "worker's comp" is required. In L.A., this alone is sending businesses to other states.

e) Get a 'non-interest bearing' checking account. There's no interest generated thus 'interest / dividened' is reported to the IRS.

e) Take ur $$ out of the bank each week, and only leave as minimal as possible.

f) Buy all ur product at discount houses - they're a few pennies more however NONE require 'tax ID' numbers.

youth centre 'thingy' aint gonna be a business, helpful and needed everywhere but not very profitable ( hence all the charity ones { oh that run out of funding btw})
