Is it normal to forget many things you learn in school/college, or does that indicate a problem?

I'm forgetting lots of things I've learned in my past, especially math related, and I never really got much of it the first time around.

Being that we seem to study SO many subjects, and our whole lives seem to be centered around learning, business, work,

is this assuming that humans in general are programmed, or by nature supposed to be productive 24/7/365?

It goes contrary to my nature, I'll tell you that much, and why do we need to learn advanced mathematics?

Is there a need for this?

Why are there 1000000000000000 textbooks in libraries?

Why did humanity have to make everytihng SO complex?

Why can't people just live the simple life, stop caring, let go, have fun, dance, go shopping, etc?

I don't understand the point, the fun, or even why things such as mathematics have to be so complicated.

These people are also completely religiously devoid and act as if only the physical world we're in now matters.

To me it's hell.

To them it's snobby heaven.

Some people spend their whole lives learning and what not. I think that's VERY admirable, but I don't feel that I'm programed that way at all.

I'm not a retard, but I guess if what I just described is the norm, then I guess I am a retard. lol.

What's the point of calculus?

The universe is very complicated. The longer our race survives, the more we learn. You go to college to get a smattering of knowledge in many areas, a 'well rounded' education. The idea is not so much to teach you everything but to teach you a -little- of everything so you have an understanding of how the different areas of knowledge relate to one another.

For example I was a liberal arts major so I learned how the history of theater and the history of music and literature are related to history itself, the history of politics. I learned just enough about theater and music and politics to see this. But I could have spent the whole four years learning just about the music of the 18th century, or drama of the French Renaissance, or the Hundred Years' War.

Well, then, after four years of college, or six years, you have the chance to get a job where you will learn more about something in particular. And even then you are learning a lot about a little bit, knowledge in depth, not in breadth. Nobody can know everything about everything.

There's no way you can remember everything you learned in college. Knowledge that you don't use is pushed out of your brain to make room for the new stuff you learn. And that's a good thing because you learn new stuff every day!

If you ever needed to know any of that stuff again, you'd learn it easier the second time. Or it will be easier to learn something new.

In fact in a way the purpose of college is to learn how to learn! In my checkered career I have found that every new job I take, no matter how much experience I have, I have to start over and learn new stuff. When you have a college education on your resume, it shows what you have learned, but even more important, it shows what you are -capable- of learning.

Its not a problem its normal to forget a lot of things, especially if you are not using them in your everyday life. Especially calculus, I have yet to use that in the real world. If you dont keep up with those kind of things you are just bound to forget how they are done.

You're kind of rambling but I'll try to answer your question in the best manner possible. It is normal to forget the things you have learned during your years of education. The real purpose of being in school is to learn how to think, put ideas together and to be able to analyze something beyond what it is. The purpose of school is to be able to come up with ideas and apply them to a problem or put them into action. It is quite natural that 80-90% of what we learn will fall away from our minds at some point.

there is no problem we all tend to forget sometimes we are not prefect, you just have to keep reviewing your notes.
