What is the point of having "technical support" if you can't understand a WORD?

They are saying?!?

This REALLY annoys me!

How do we send a message to companies that foreign call centers will eventually HURT their businesses?

Actually - yes, we DO pay for tech support as part of the price of the product!

The overwhelming answer is that America is "cheaping" its self out of Business.

With overwhelming companies & products no longer manufactured, warrantied or regulated by the United States. Leaving many with inferior or dangerous products. No solutions as to make available what used to be made in the USA & opportunities with benefits with an employer who returned your loyalty.

And we as Americans, just keep sucking it up. Cost over Quality. Cheaper products with a higher price tag. Everything from our Gas, autos, food, electronics, medicines, to our homes. And for some, even their children.

And worse we let them & our Government, stand back & watch the USA sink.

We will soon be a Country, owned entirely by Foreign Nations. If not already.

OOps! the tech support is mostly their just as a bait to purchase extended warranties.

every time you can't understand, ask for a supervisor immediately.

the super gets paid more and so they don't like to occur her/his time with ordinary calls.

***
if they won't or can't get you a super, hang up and call the toll free number again. as many itmes as necessary to get someone whose speech you can understand. They pay for all the calls, anyway.

:-)

I've thought that myself and it leaves me befuddled! Do they not understand the term "layman's words", or something similar?
Talking over our heads won't do a thing for us or them. Heck I'm an artist and when people ask me about the most basic blocks of my trade I do my best to simplify the answer so that they walk away understanding what I said!
So why can't other people do that, especially in "technical support"? It's no support if you can't understand what they are saying!

I tell them that I want to speak to a supervsor who speaks fluent English. I tell them I have a hearing problem that makes talking to someone with an accent difficult.

The truth?? They are foreign because it's cheaper. let's face it. So, how can that hurt their business when you need it nevertheless.
You are going to keep calling whether they provide you with the right info or not and you are going to call because there is "no one" that can help you with this otherwise you wouldn't be calling. Unless there is a way to obtain technical support without needing them they are going to keep this charade.
I understand what you mean and its really upsetting. I called the bank the other day... we are talking about money and I could not even understand her name. It's my money!!! but what can I do? go to the bank personally... I don't have time, otherwise I wouldn't be calling. they know that, they take advantage on that. :@

It's not hurting their business. Companies like Dell sell the majority of their equipment to corporations who have their own technical support centers.

A qualified tech support person in a low cost part of the US cost's them in the neighborhood of $100K+/year (factor in salary, benefits, facility, taxes etc..). Same tech support person in Cali or Boston or Seattle will cost closer to $200K/year.

A US educated tech support person in India costs around $30K/year.

Until the cost of living equals out globally out sourcing is a fact of life.

Keep in mind that they don't charge for tech support.

Question - would pay for a US citizen to speak with?
