I want to design a language education center. Can you help? |
I plan to open a center for educating teachers to be more proficient in certain fields like business English or English for Engineers, etc. Then I aim to contact other educational institutions and schools to find jobs for these teachers. But I don't know how to form the structure of such a center. Please help. Hi Susu- I'm not sure that this is exactly what you are looking for, but this is just an idea and suggestion. Structuring an ESP (English for Specific Purposes) center would require deciding whether the prospective teachers already have business experience or if you want to train non-business teachers to teach business. If it's the former, then all you have to do is design the curriculum and decide which aspects of business they would cover. If it's the latter, then you would have to structure the courses very much like, for example, paralegals, medical office assts, pharma aides. This means that the teachers would have to first go through a mini-intensive course in business terminology, ethics, procedures, issues... In other words, they would have to "become" business savvy. Also, business English is a very broad field so it would further have to be divided into specialties like: communications, marketing, sales, IT&P/International Trade & Practices, import/export/brokerage, expediting....So, the center, should have an entry level curriculum for those without experience and an expanded curriculum for those with business experience to learn how to teach and impart their knowledge. A practicum should be part of the advanced courses. You could also offer fun electives after classes (or as classes) like inter-cultural business practices, business etiquette, international social etiquette, international entertaining/table manners etc. Good Luck and I wish you success in your center. |
