Jehovah's Witnesses - How can you be a non-profit organization?

when a huge sum of your donations go to members of your society that are business owners?

Example: 99% of the supplies you use in building your kingdom halls and convention centers are supplied by the people in your organization.

jw's is a non-profit organization because the money goes to the building of kingdom halls, convention centers, magazines ect.

and the suppliers pay taxes on the money that they receive or their products and services.

so what's your point?

As long as they are paying a fair price for their services I don't see it as a problem. Most charities people donate money to half of the donations go into the pockets of the people working for the charity and a small portion goes to the people that the charity was set up to help. Maybe you should be asking about that.

It would only be illegal (a violation of 501(c)3) if they paid significantly more to have JWs supply their goods than a non-JW. It would be income inuring to the benefit of private individuals. Otherwise, they can choose whichever supplier they like.

Alot of those supplies are donated by the brothers and sisters. All other money is used to buy the land to build the Kingdom Halls, pay for the printing and shipping of new literature, to send missionaries to far away lands, to help people when there has been a natural disaster and many other things I can't think of right now.

WHO CARES!!!
There are more pressing things to worry about.

The donations go to building Kingdom halls, literature, heating/air & electric bills for our personal Kindom Hall basically anything to do with the organization. I'm not sure what you mean about the donations going to business owners.

Like shopping at walmart Huh?.. what are you, an Infant? Your Point if there is one is Moot.

Do YOU understand what a non-profit organization is?

It does not mean an organization that has NO MONEY.

do u think before u speak what is a non profit it is when u dont use money towards personal gain when they jw get things for our benifit for them to use or enjoy its for us so who eles should pay you? i dont think so also oraganization means all members are in agreement throughout the world

Mrdover9, sorry, but nothing we or anybody can question that if it is defined by law.....as much as how you wish to Q that...the law on religious, educational institutions, foundations, etc under corporation law or code when categorized as non-profit org...it will only be futile to scrutinize....

Change the law....so you have the reasons or ground to Q or scrutinize such orgs claiming to be non-profit...I'm not JW but just know the law....

it's easy.

go to your attorney. tell him you want to start a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.
pay him 3000 bucks american.

wait for the 1023 from the good guys at IRS, fill it out.

send it in with a cheque for 750 bucks US.

wait a bit longer

file your paperwork with the State of New York, or wherever you live,

wait stilllll a bit longer

when you get the paperwork, voila!
you are a nonprofit corp.

if you so much as do ONE THING wrong, you will be audited, may have your personal and corporate assets seized, and may do prison time.

so!

if you want info about the Watch Tower B&TS of PA, contact the corp comm. for a few bucks, you can learn all you want.

if you want info about the Watchtower B&TS of NY, contact the corp comm.there and for a few bucks, you can learn all you want about that corp.

and, yes, we supply lots of stuff. i do it, so does anyone else who WANTS to. if they dont want to, fine.

now. please tell us about YOUR church and YOUR nonprofit group and how much IT pays ITS directors and corp pres & the like.

can you do that?

will you do that?

pleeeeeze!!??!!

gramps

There is no material benefit. Jehovah's Witnesses make donations (as much as they wish) which are used to spread the good news of God鈥檚 Kingdom (producing Bibles and Bible-oriented publications as well as audiocassettes and videocassettes, building Kingdom Halls, sending out traveling overseers to fortify the congregations and to encourage them in their public ministry etc.)

"... there is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving." -- Acts 20:35

Huh?

Hugh sums? Do you have FACTS to back up this claim or are you pulling your information out of the air?

"Example: 99% of the supplies you use in building your kingdom halls and convention centers are supplied by the people in your organization."

Again where do you get your information?

Any supplies I provide to the local Kingdom Hall are DONATED just like the majority of others do.

Even then if 99% that were true which is very unlikely, the brothers and sisters would normally only charge for the materials and maybe waiver the profit or offer a good deal and they give a lot of their own time up for free in building kingdom halls.
The fact is if they can reduce the costs of materials and save money then they are truly doing the donators justice. If I was giving I would like my donation to stretch to as far as good use as possible.
