What licenses do you need to open a children's birthday party center?

I am working on opening a girls party center in Florida and I can not find out for the life of me what licenses I would need. Is it the same as a daycare or enrichment center because people would be leaving the children in your care? Please help I know this is the perfect small business for me!

Since you're new to this business, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I'd call the local Florida office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.
Ask for a counselor who has experience with daycares/enrichment centers and they'll try their best to pair you with the right counselor.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a children's birthday party center and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.

You'll need to register the business with your state controller's office and make sure that you have any city and county licenses if any are needed where you live. All of this will come out in a business plan.

You will need a state and local business license and perhaps a food handlers license if you serve food. Even if not required you will want to make sure your employees are drug free, trained in CPR and have no criminal background. You need to make sure you have insurance on the employees and guest in case of accident. Your daycare licensing people should be able to tell you if you need to be licensed.
