Insight for a 16-year-old girl confused about love?

there is something wrong with me.
i can't flirt.
i don't understand why girls around me flirt so much... it's not like i can't. i look ok, and my brain functions..

although i do succumb to high-school crushes, it's usually just a bout of infatuation based on shallow aspects of a person. it's not enough to make me go up to a guy and pursue something.

or maybe i'm just too stubborn/afraid to do so.

most other people i know are immature. and so am i! i'll admit it: i'm a self-centered, self-conscious teenager.

and this whole flirting business just makes things more of a mess for me than they already are! in my books, chemistry and anxiety are synonymous. i suppose i'm too immature. or maybe my problem transcends age and experience. maybe i'm just too independent and narcisisstic.

so how do all the girls/guys hooking up around me either not feel what i'm feeling, or can deal with it?

No there is nothing wrong with you. It just means you have more important things to do instead of worrying about boys. I would focus on school and getting a good job. You have the rest of your life to worry about boys and trust me things will happen when they happen. Don't stress it.

There is nothing wrong with you. Your smart, and not a dumb high school girl. Consider yourself lucky!

theres nothing wrong with you. your probably just shy when it comes to boys. all you have to do is be around them more and then it will be easier to talk to them. you might sound stupid, but atleast its something to laugh about and break the ice between you

At your age you shouldn't worry too much about it. Don't make guys a priority right now. Just focus on finishing school and possibly college.

Keep your head where you are. You're better off than you realize. I actually wish more young girls were like you.

When i was in highschool I didn't date anybody. Perhaps I could have gotten dates but it was so worthless to me to go out with somebody when in highschool everybody dumps each other over dumb reasons. They say they love each other only to break up. The next day they try to act big by getting into yet another new relationship. They lose their virginity to someone that obviously is not going to last with them. It's not right. It's not like after highschool where they take relationships seriously and it's actually worth something.
