I may soon be relocating to Phoenix or Tucson, AZ and would like to know more about the GLBT communities!?

I would appreciate any and all information on GLBT focused/centered: Neighborhoods/Districts, Bars/Clubs, Businesses/Opportunities, Organizations/Pride, and the like.

The Valley is getting more tollerant. One of the city councilmen in Phoenix (Tom Simplot) is openly gay, and is now in his second term. The current mayor (Phil Gordon) rides in the Gay Pride parade each year. The former mayor of Tempe (Neil Giuliano) is openly gay.

I live in Mesa as well.

IMO, I am not too sure how gay friendly Mesa is.

There is a small gay community in the southern Scottsdale area, with some gay-friendly clubs and bars in the Old Town Scottsdale area.

Some isolated areas in central Phoenix as well.

Where is Gay Phoenix?
Phoenix, unlike other major metropolitan areas that have GLBT neighborhoods such as Boystown of Chicago, or Chelsea of New York City, or Hillcrest of San Diego, does not have these type of neighborhoods. Most GLBT Phoenicians like to spread out, and the mainstream get to see us everywhere.

However, most of the GLBT community activity is based in the central Phoenix area. The base area is the southern point of McDowell, north to Bethany Home, West from 7th Ave., and east to 7th Street. There has been much progress as more GLBTowned businesses are opening on 7th Ave., from Indian School to Camelback, on 3rd Street from Osborn to Indian School, and 7th Street from Indian School to just north of Camelback. Tucson has a great lgbt community with a couple of bars here and there, but the city overall is boring as death.
Phoenix's lgbt community is pretty big too, and what i like about it is that most of it is located around the same road (on 7th). There are more gay oriented things than for lesbians.
There are loads of clubs, bars, day hangouts and a couple of churches in the phoenix area.

proably one of the college areas in tempe. eventhough phoenix is the 5th largest city it doesnt have a huge metropolitan area officaly like say atlanta's metro and its midtown. try tempe on for size
