Has anyone here actually read "The Communist Manifesto"?

I've had some people here refer to me as a communist liberal. I read TCM in college (as well as many other political theories from the far left to the center to the far right). I don't think it defines me or my views at all. Is belief in family run businesses that aren't run out by big business communist? Is expecting big business to clean up environmental damage they create instead of taxpayers communist? Is wanting to be able to buy organic produce instead of GMO food communist? Is caring about free speech and the exchange of ideas communist?

Wow, I can't wait to tell my organic farmer friend that loves Rush (i know i can't figure it out either but to each his own) that he is a communist. He might just go spray all his fields pesticides tonight. Boy , I didn't know free enterprise (ie having the RIGHT TO CHOOSE between organic food and GMO and supporting local business instead of big multinationals) was communist. So what's next because I say I want o vote, that makes me communist!? LOL this place is funny.

thanks for the 10 points cockbite Report It

Nope!

It was required reading in my modern Euro history course in college.

I can honestly say, I couldn't get thought it, it was so dull dreary and boring, I found Mien Kopht (SP) by hitler, to be far more interesting.

I have, in fact I have read it twice in the last month, for research. Believe it or not but communists like Krushchev considered liberals his allies in bringing down the US in the Cold War.

The organic product one. That is a tricky one, because by producing food the way that the US is, the US is able to help feed the rest of the world. If they started to produce organic foods, the US could no longer do such.

Its highly ironic if you think about it

I read for a Western Civ class. Theory looks good but in reality it doen't work.

no, but okay

I have. I had to read it in college. None of what you addressed is included in the Manifesto. The Manifesto is about workers rights, and workers taking over governments.

Parts of it....but only for college. Communism is great, and would work, except for the human factor. Power corrupts, no matter what, and forcefully sharing the wealth is as bad as not sharing it. You are definitely a liberal, but as for communist, who cares? Read The Prince with The Discourses, Art of War, and 48 Rules as they make great companions of the Manifesto and other works.

When you say was this or that was/is communist you are equating it with bad when in fact it was a brilliant political theory that doesn't work out as planned in practice simply because of the absolute power corrupts absolutely true-ism. Given other competing parties communism could do a power of good for short spells in office if not for their no other parties rule. If you need a party to equate w. bad try fascists.

Ive read the communist manifesto, your views arent represented in that piece of work, though they are represented by the communist party usa's platform. You should read that. I used to think that communism was a good idea in theory like youve stated, and everyone know's it doesnt work, but is a dictatorship of the proletariat(spelled that wrong) better than any other dictatorship, the only flaw with communist theory is that it wants to eleminate an entire group of people.

the Nazi's were fascist because though they were a little different the biggest difference between the Italian Fascist party and the Nazi party is their name's, and president's are elected just not by popular vote, the electors elect him by vote.

I have read the manifesto. You are probably not a communist, but being a liberal you probably are a statist and a socialist.

I hate it when people confuse terms. People call Nazi's fascists, and rightly so, but they forget that the Nazis were the National Socialist Party.

Or when people refer to our country as a democracy, when we never have been or never will be a democracy.....we are and always have been a republic.

Or when people say the president is elected.....no president has ever been elected.....every president is appointed by vote by the electoral college.

Here it is online.

Karl Marx would have done well to study some antropology and do research into human nature. He might have learned that his theories flew in the face of nature.
