Do you like this new wave of laws Kan. lawmakers drafting bills to target illegal immigration your thoughts?

WICHITA, Kan. --Republican and Democratic lawmakers in Kansas are drafting separate bills targeting illegal immigration amid fears about a potential influx of illegal immigrants from neighboring states that have already started cracking down.

Across the nation, at least 127 cities and states have passed or are considering local laws aimed at curbing illegal immigration, according to a database compiled by the Fair Immigration Reform Movement, a project of the Center for Community Change, an immigrant advocacy group based in Washington, D.C.In Kansas, some people are concerned that illegal immigrants may move here from the neighboring states of Oklahoma, Colorado and Missouri, which have passed laws or instituted policies aimed at illegal immigration.

"I don't believe Kansas should become a sanctuary state as other states continue to pass legislation," said Rep. Brenda Landwehr, R-Wichita.

If the federal government is not going to solve the illegal immigration problem, she said, then states have to step in.

Her proposal, which is still being drafted, is based on laws in Oklahoma, Arizona and Colorado, Landwehr said. It would revoke business licenses and impose civil penalties on any Kansas business found to have employed an illegal immigrant, enforce federal law denying public benefits to illegal immigrants and strengthen local enforcement efforts.

GO Kansas, GOOO!!!
If I don't pay my taxes, I can go to jail.
If I don't pay my child support, I can be put in jail.
If I cheat on construction of my house and build it without a permit, I can be required to tear it down and pay a stiff fine.
Businesses who promote the employment of "illegals" should be put in jail, they just gave a supervisor for a large residential builder here 3 years for employing "illegals" to increase his profit margin.

Well, they are called "illegal" immigrants for a reason!! If they want to come to America, let them come here legally. Its not fair to the ones who follow the rules.

I think it's about time, and my hat is off to them. I hope they prevail, and more states will follow suite.

I'm all for immigration, legal immigration. I have a few friends who have immigrated and they are hard working, law abiding citizens. I think they are great, and I think that illegal immigrants are ruining the reputation of those people who are doing it correctly. I'm not saying ALL illegals are breaking laws and taking jobs, but if they want to live in this country I believe they need to go through the correct channels.

IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!
EVERY STATE SHOULD BE DOING THE SAME THING!!!

First off let me start by saying that I am not a bigget by any means. If someone comes to this country legally, and becomes a part of our society, then great, they have my blessing, But an illegal person is just that, illegal. First off they are breaking our laws by being here, second, we pay threw the nose for there health care because the majority don't pay. Third, crime rate is higher in areas that they are in, fourth, They send their money back to there country instead of keeping it in out country. I can go on and on but I think that anything to detour them from not being here is a good thing, and since the feds. aren't going to do it, then i guess it is up to the states, and city governments. I have a few ideas, like refuse them medical treatment, that way they can't come here to have babies so that they can get wellfare, second don't let them go to our schools, no education for non tax payers. I can go on and on but I think you get the idea.

Great idea,to bad we don't have lawmakers in Fla. who have the same kind of back bone.

they aren't the only ones it looks like 16 or so states are in some stage of the process of adopting oklahoma's law on immigration. link has full article, bonus article for informational purposes

Well it's about time. States are seeing it is up to them to pass laws as the do nothing Congress is incompetent

That is freakin' awesome! Bi-partisan support for something that will actually HELP instead of hurt the constituents? -WOW-

Think they'll try that in California?

Oops! I forgot: California is ruled by the San Francisco Wacko Brigade. Oh well ...*sigh*... must be nice.

...

See, now if we just keep going this way, state by state, there will be nothing left for them here and they will either go home or head up to Canada (poor Canada). Whoever said we couldn't get rid of all of them seriously had their head in the sand.
