I am not sure what category this falls under but I just wanted to know if?

anybody has went through something like this on their jobs. Backbiting and gossiping with you being the center of attention. Thats what I am going through right now. I have this woman yes I said woman on my job that speaks to me when I speak to her but behind my back she says that I act funny. That I dont talk to her but I talk to everybody else. First of all you would have to know this person to know why I dont hold long conversations with her she is a 30 something years old trouble maker. She is always in somebody else business instead of worrying about her own. She doesnt like me because I stay to myself. She has turned other people against me. It has gotten to the point that I dont trust anybody on my job. I have days where i hate to go in. There is a lot peer pressure on this job. You wouldnt think that most of us were adults because of the way we carry on. People are always being pulled into the office like school kids its awful. Can anybody relate?

You work with a lot of women!

I'm in a male dominated field, so I am usually the only woman.

When I did work at a factory with a lot of women, they talked about me. my clothes, etc. I really could care less.

During lunch, I was walking past "Fashion Row" in my ripped jeans and holey sweater. Comfortable clothes for me. One of the women said "Didn't you wear those jeans yesterday?"

I responded by saying "Yes. I had to give you and your crew something new to talk about."

About a week later, all of them were sporting ripped jeans and talking about how they paid $300 for them on Melrose.

Don't let pettiness come between you and your paycheck.

Sounds normal. People are pretty shallow.

I have been a manager for years, and it never ends...Managaing a team is like babysitting... The best you can do is ignore what is being said, the ppl will soon see who is in the wrong/or right, and act on it.

best thing to do is steer clear. and if you must in front of others let her know that her trouble making is why you prefer not to speak with her and let that be that. Others may feel liberated because someone stood up to the bully on the play yard :) just remember do it in front of others so there are witnesses and do it with tact don't just attack her just simply state your reasons for not wanting to talk with her in plain terms.

I can definitely relate. This is common in many companies. Cliques and lies and gossiping just like high school. You have four options...
1) Ignore it. If you don't think this will come back to your boss or affect your work performance you can pretend like it isn't happening.
2) Talk to her. Surprisingly, there might be some way you can "make up" with her. If you are able to do her a favor, do so. And don't say anything negative behind her back because it won't help.
3) Talk to your boss or her boss. If you think it's gotten that bad, think she is lying, and think it is affecting your work performance you could report it to a supervisor. Chances are, however, that this won't help or solve anything and might actually make it worse, however it is an option. Especially if the supervisor doesn't like her and you can provide them with some ammunition.
4) Move on. Some companies are worse than others, and you won't necessarily fit right in at every place. Before this gets any more toxic, move to another department away from this woman or move to a new company entirely and get a fresh start.

Many offices are more like grade school than you would think, and gossip is unfortunately the currency of such places. You can either choose to take the high road as you have been doing, and thus give them nothing to talk about. Eventually they'll run out of steam but you may be isolated or excluded because you'll be perceived as "stuck up."

The other choice is the I-don't-give-a-damn-let-them-talk-about-... approach. While this may entertain you for a brief while, you run the risk of getting yourself into more trouble than you can handle and/or becoming the subject of intense gossip.

Option #3 is to find yourself a work environment where your co-workers are a little more mature and less prone to junior high antics.

If your company has a Human Resource Department; I recommend you speak with them. That is what they are there for and get paid to do. This needs to be brought out into the open and an end put to it. If your company does not have a HR department; take it to the highest level you can take it to and demand that working conditions improve. Issues like these cause companies alot of money each year because it affects personel and their productivity. If you are still unable to find a solution to put and end to it and you have tried to approach the one that stirs the pot; look for a new job. Life is just to short to be unhappy.

1st - stop assuming people have turned against you
Just because some talks to them , does not mean they are dumb enough to "turn" .
And otherwise that is just life on planet earth -
If you have trouble ignoring it , ask the supervisor to relocate you (might do it, might not) then start job shopping for a new job .
Shop for a job that has less people in the office because you seem to pay attention to them .

Oh God, and that's the very reason that I never took an office job with a bunch of back biting bit**** and overweight twinky eating slobs. Personally, I would slap the bit**, of course then I would have to go to Bit** Slapping School. I would suggest joining the Coast Guard, free training, free housing, free medical and the sky is the limit. You could be a helicopter pilot, a doctor, a lawyer, a paramedic.......the possibilities are endless. You get to live in small little beach towns and the Coasties become your immediate family. Just food for thought.
