How to be a reference in parent's publications for articles on children's parties, play group, playdates, etc

I am opening a unique children鈥檚 play and enrichment center in NJ and have done extensive research on the topics of child entertainment, parties, and classes for my business. I would like to become a source of information in local or national publications for articles that cover these topics so that I can build a name for myself and contribute my knowledge. How do I get contacted for input on articles in various publications With Out hiring an expesive public relations firm?

Write a brief article and submit it to the magazines you are interested in. If they accept it and publish it, you'd have your foot in the door for future contacts.

You have to have already "done" something, like have written a new book, have a Phd in the field, or already be the owner of the children's center, of course PR is the usual method to get your name out there.

You can try contacting the editors of the publications directly (via email or letter). Truthfully, most of the letters are read by interns. Do you have any friends who could get you in for an informational interview with the editors? That helps too. Once you contact them, you could try pitching them a story based on your experience -- that's just another angle.
