Thank God for the free market system & unbridled Capitalism?

Are you ashamed this could happen in America? Kinda makes you want to say thank-you Conservatives for both unbridled Capitalism and your vision of what America could be if only the wealthy/business interests ran the USA.!

Tent city in suburbs is cost of home crisis

Between railroad tracks and beneath the roar of departing planes sits "tent city," a terminus for homeless people. It is not, as might be expected, in a blighted city center, but in the once-booming suburbia of Southern California.

As more families throw in the towel and head to foreclosure here and across the nation, the social costs of collapse are adding up in the form of higher rates of homelessness, crime and even disease.

While no current residents claim to be victims of foreclosure, all agree that tent city is a symptom of the wider economic downturn. And it's just a matter of time before foreclosed famil

Happy Holidays & a great big thank-you to the religious Conservatives for making this a wonderful Christmas for so many!

Look at some of the answers you are getting. One excuse after another as to why it is the homeless people's fault and the rest of us bear no responsibility.
People have completely forgotten their Christian teachings. There, for the grace of God, go I.
Jesus tried to teach his Apostles at the last supper that God will send to you everything you need to succeed in life if you live a Christ-like life. Giving to the poor, or to the people who are not receiving God's good graces because they are living an unholy life, is a responsibility of the righteous.
It is not up to mankind to condemn other people for the road they pick in life. It is up to mankind to sustain the unholy in the hope that they may find the road to salvation. Any effort by the righteous to aid the unholy toward salvation will be repaid tenfold.
It amazes me that so many people claim America is a Christian nation but don't adhere to the words of Christ. Instead they quote Old Testament verses. Christianity is based on the life of Christ, not the Old Testament.

I don't normally give religious based answers. But this whole thing about helping the disadvantaged cries out for a religious answer. Even the agnostic agrees what goes around comes around. Report It

Any one who equates free market economics with God's plan for humanity doesn't know much about either.

Educating them is like trying to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Peace.

This is a perfect example of governments screwing themselves by handing everything to citizens then having to make cutbacks because they can no longer realistically afford the handouts.

This is the perfect example of why we need capitalism.

i heard somewhere, that the majority of people are only one paycheck from being destitute. thank god for visa. ( ;-( } I'm not lafin! merry Christmas.

Perhaps you shouldn't blame capitalism, but instead blame those people in the tent city for not living within their means. Like most suffering foreclosure, I'd be willing to bet the majority of those people had high valued homes, top of the line appliances and furnitures, numerous cars, and four maxed out credit cards. And kept buying and buying til they went bust. Don't blame capitalism, blame the people who can't control themselves. They made their bed, now they have to lie on the ground and miss that bed.

Lets applaud these people. They had kids they can't afford. The bought houses they can't afford. Thats capitalisms fault. I think not. Just another application of Darwins law.
I would like to say thank god for the conservatives and business minded liberals like Warren Buffet for the jobs and opportunities they provide not only at Christmas but all through time.

wait wait wait......you libs have been promising to fix all this for the last 40 yrs....and the more social programs and welfare we have, the worse the problem gets.....I know its the lib mentality that says if a program isn't working we need more of it, but this is ridiculous!!!....unbridled capitalism DOES work...instead of demanding more social programs that does nothing but raise taxes and penalize the productive, why don't we try UNBRIDLING IT!!!.....that CREATES jobs!!! that CREATES wealth....but even THEN you will STILL have tent cities and homeless...there will ALWAYS be those who have bought into the "I'm a victim" mentality...there will always be those who make the wrong decisions with their life and end up on drugs and homeless....its funny how you never hear of the homeless when a dem is in office...its like they pack up their tent cities and go home....but when a republican is in office they suddenly appear out of nowhere....its you LIBS who make people feel they are useless and can't make it on their own..its you LIBS who need and use people like this as your propaganda..you act like you care for these people...they are just props for you to use to get your agenda passed...and that is why liberalism MUST be stopped!!

I am a religious conservative. Just last night, on PBS, there was a program about homeless people. Social service groups were trying to get homeless people apartments of their own. Many of the people were refusing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The report stated that most of the homeless are there because they are mentally ill, substance abusers, or both.

Remember when we used to lock up the crazy people in mental hospitals for their own good/protection? Thanks to bleeding heart liberals, states can no longer do that.

In my town, which is a lower middle class suburb, there is not one homeless person living on the street.

Are you serioulsy blaiming the SubPrime Issue and its aftermath on Conservatives?! Shut up stop contributing to the problem or shut up and do nothing at all. These are PEOPLE we are talking about here! People whose lives are irrevocably altered as a result of a Market Bubble. Do not pander them off for your own political ideals. Don't package and rap them into a quick political party segway.
Sure, it makes you feel high and mighty...maybe even a little self-righteous...yet what for fail to realize while you are increasingly marginalizing these people to stump for your party is that this is NOT a political issue. Most of the Investment Banks (which are currently facing law suits that will be very likely going to trial in 08) are actually Contributors to the Democratic Party.
NO!? Really? Yeah. No s**t! And before the Republicans jump up and cheer...there are Investment Banks that are responsible for this mess to that have contributed to that Party as well.
Oh, and lets not forget, this is an international issue and the Central Banks of foreign countries were also issue and buying collaterialized mortgage obligations too...
Seeing as how you have no viable clue what the problem here is, allow me to explain something. The defaults on the homes had NOTHING to do with the Collaterialize securities behind them. Duh. These securities have been around for a LONG, LONG time. It had to do with some predatory practices on the part of certain lenders! Yes, absolutely true (but against your point they fall on both sides of the spectrum). Moreover, I suppose you want to blame this on Homosexuals too, because they seem to have millions of TV shows teaching people how to flip houses?! Gonna blame them too!? Afterall, this is what largely created the false signals to the market to increase the supply (simple economics: a house is bought by one person, who then fixes it up and sells it within weeks to another. two mortgage applications for the same home. the Mortgage Brokerage Report that comes out monthly then sends the signal to the market of this huge demand for homes, which means manufacturers rush to keep up. Banks lower rates and present incentive deals to get their hands on this market too...then, the price bubble pops and the house of cards comes falling down.)
This has nothing to do with Capitalism (and it is ignorant to call our style of capitialism unbriddled, seeing as how our banking and securities markets are the most regulationed in the world) nor is this an issue of any one party, as this was a bubble forming back in the 90s, but was stalled and then made worse by the Internet bubble.

So before you start throwing stones for throwings sake...get to know the facts on the ground....cause when people are involved and you come off as if you know what you are talking about (but are flat out wrong) it looks like you are whoring out the weak and defenseless for your own political agenda....and I for one am tired of the division caused by such callousness!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

Get rich quick schemes in the capitalist business world, (buyouts, IPOs, conglomerates, acquisitions, mergers, and the stock market), do not actually work. Remaining solvent does not actually exist within false economics capitalism.

Profit existing in the capitalist business world, or millionaires existing within capitalism, is pathological deception committed by the 21 organizations spying on the population with plain clothes agents, (with covert fake names and fake backgrounds).

Actual economics is the persons paying the monthly business loan payments of companies voting at work in order to control the property they are paying for.

Capitalism is the psychology of imaginary parents, false economics, and the criminal deception of employees that are paying the bills (including the stocks and bonds, or shares) of companies.

Anti-Democracy republicanism is the psychology of imaginary parents, and false government.

...Thank God for capitalism - we have enjoyed many blessings and a great standard of living.
...What it has not given us, though, is a bunch of people who spend their resources wisely, and most do not use money wisely. They have borrowed beyond their means, and to be debt free means to them that they are keeping up with their payments only.
...I believe in ownership, not loaner-ship.
...One more thing - it is a real shame our state governments sponsor and promote lotteries, which rob the poor of resources, appeal to human weakness and sinfulness to get something for nothing, and encourage people to "hit it big" rather than doing a hard day's work.
