Has anyone had to find investors before?

My husband and I are organic farmers in NJ. Our business has really been expanding over the past 7 years. We now need to find investors so that we can increase our growing space. We would also like to develop an environmental/agricultural education center as we are both teachers as well. Has anyone needed to find investors before? If so, what were their expectations and what did you offer them? Also, other than family and friends, how did you go about finding investors? Thank you :)
