Looking to hire a live out nanny for my 8 month old son.?

I am interested in a girl who used to work for me at my place of business. She worked for me for over a year. She has babysat in the past, I am meeting with her tomorrow and want to know what questions I should ask her. Please help me ask the right questions! I have been using a large learning center, but am not satisfied with the level of care. 4 infants to one provider isn't really as good as you think. I do not want to take my son to someone else's house which is why I am looking for a live out nanny.

I was sort of a part-time live-out nanny for a lady I worked with when I was 17. Before I started working for her, she asked me questions such as "How often should I change a baby" "How do I prepare a bottle" "how much tv is too much" "how well do I handle stress" "what would I do if I got stressed out from the baby crying" etc. etc. If I answered something she didn't agree with, she would tell me how she wanted it done. Like, if the baby were crying too much and I started getting irritated, instead of putting the baby in the living room on the playmat and step outside so I could still watch her from the window, she would rather me put the baby in the crib, close the door, and go to her room on the other side of the house and lay on the bed for a few minutes. It made sense, because I actually had to do that at one point when the baby started teething and was fussy all day long! Ask questions you feel are important, even if others may find them silly. You're only looking out for the best interest of your son. Good luck!

Whilst there are lots of questions you need to ask - such as-
check she doesn't smoke or do drugs
where has she worked previously?
whether she has first aid training etc.
you really need to go by your gut instinct. See how she relates to your child. Is she comfortable around him. Is she likely to stimulate him or watch TV and leave him to his own devices? Do you trust her? Do you like her?

I interviewed lots of nannies from agencies who all looked good on paper but I didn't think any of them would be suitable despite glowing references. Then I met a young girl with no previous experience but she was just such a warm loving person who took to my baby instantly and my baby to her and I had no doubt she was the right one. Engaging her was the best thing ever did as she proved to be fantastic and we are life long friends even though she now has a family of her own.
Good luck!
