Serious question=)?

i want to go to college and become a counsler for kids
i want to help them deal with issues such as self-esteem,
broken homes and much much more. I want to open up a center for kids so that they could have a place to come play, chill and know that if they need to talk to someone they know that i'm there to help & support them if they need it. I know that i will be minoring in business..plz help me look at majors and carreras that can help me prepare for the job

If you want to help in counseling, you'll need a masters degree in psychology, particularly child psychology or child development. Consider going on a website such as collegeboard.com to read up on various majors and the career paths.

General Psychology and Developmental Psychology are good places to start, and also make sure you have a good background in Social Issues classes.

Take Early childhood education. Psychology,Marriage and the family, You have to know a lot of things because if you want to help children you will have to be prepared to deal with a lot of subjects of which they will be dealing. So think long and hard about what school will offer all of this. Counseling should be your major and then you can counsel anyone about anything.

You'll need at least a diploma in Child and Youth care. Talk to the advisors at the college and see what courses you are required to take. The more credentials you have, the more flexible you will be (in terms of a career). You don't want to "lock" yourself into an education that will only qualify you to work in a supervised daycare. Although that is certainly a great job, you also want to branch out into counselling and support! You will be great!

Whatever you do, don't get a BA in psychology. I have several family members (my dad, stepmom, aunts, uncle) in the mental health field. My aunt and uncle have a BA in psych and strongly recommend NOT doing that. You'd have to get a Masters or PsyD to make money and be able to do your own work without supervision.

My dad has a BA and Master's in social work as well as my stepmom. They have more job opportunities and work with kids that REALLY need help. It's not just working with foster kids like most people think. It's private counseling for kids and teens. Also working in organizations that help troubled teens.

Look into the different majors and possible job opportunities before you make any serious decisions.

Bob Jones University has a lot of counseling majors, and they also have business majors too. look them up. and if you want to get started now and are 16-18 you can apply for C.I.T. at The Wilds Christian camp for next summer.
