Job interviewer is possibly sexual predator. How to deal with this?

I posted a "looking for employment" ad and it was very vague, just said something about I do office type work. Got an email response from someone with a local phone number and local address. Business sounded very reputable and web site looked very reputable (I can pick out the scam web sites usually). Business owner worked out of their home. Phone interview seemed to go well for the most part, but I had a little gut instinct saying to be careful.
I figured before going to the interview, I'd better do a search on this person to be safe. Found someone with the same name in this area who is a sexual predator. Name is not extremely uncommon, so there is a chance this might be someone else, but I didn't want to take the chance.
I did not call or write or go to the interview and have not returned any of the TEN phone calls I've gotten from them today. They only left one message.

In a situation like this (remember, I'm not sure it is the same person), would it have been better to:

1. Send an email declining the job.
2. Make a phone call declining the job.
3. Do as I'm doing and ignore them entirely and hope they go away.

I appreciate your objective opinions.

EDITED TO ADD: The predator with the same name was charged with failing to register and acts with minors.

Only because they called 10 times and left one message I would not correspond or continue any communication with them. I'd trust your gut and move on. No responses are necessary and emailing them may give them a feeling of involvement and interaction with you that spurs their communication on. As Paul and John once said...Let it Be.
Good luck!

email him declining the job then call the police the bussiness line not 911 and request to speek to one of the detectives that handel this.
...Sexualy based crimes are consitered especialy hanis, In the city of New York they are investigate by an elete squad know as the Special Victums unit... Here aer there srtories *Doink Doink*

If you've chosen not to take the job, just send an e-mail and tell them you've decided not to take the job.

There's no need to mention the whole sexual predator thing; if you want, just say that you've been offered employment somewhere else.

Hi there,
If I were you I would send an e-mail and let them know that you are no longer looking for employment. Then don't answer his calls, ever, ever, ever again...

Good luck!
Lisa

E-MAIL THAT PERSON AND TELL THEM THANKS FOR THE OPPURTUNITY BUT YOU HAVE FOUND ANOTHER JOB

I would have done the same thing, I have no sympathy for child predators.

Ok well since they haven't offered you a job then you can't really send an email or call declining something you haven't been given.

I would have simply called and said, I just accepted another position and therefore need to cancel the interview with you. Thanks again and I wish you luck in your search. Simple professional.

Now you just look unreliable and undependable. Besides, it was assault to a minor, are you a minor? If not then I wouldn't worry about it, besides, what makes you think it's him, you could be wrong.
