Former WWE star Damien Demento is calling for blading in wrestling to be banned. What are your thoughts on it?

For those who don't know, in wrestling, "blading", "jucing", "coloring", and "gigging" refer to cutting yourself with a razor in a match.

Ever see guys like Triple H, Tommy Dreamer, Ric Flair, or John Cena (just to name a few) get that "crimson mask"? This is how.

Well, former WWE star Damien Demento (was in RAW's first-ever main event) is asking his senator if it can be banned. Here's the letter, and tell me what you think of this:

What if I told you that there has been a longtime practice of employers asking employees to deliberately cut themselves? Worse still, the are asked to do this in front of children. It gets worse. Most know this sick practice is being done. Where does this take place? Would you believe College and High School auditoriums, County, and State Fairs, Sporting Arenas, and on Television? Not just in this State, but around the Country.

My name is Phillip Thies, former WWE pro wrestler. I have seen, and worked, with guys who have done this. As you realize now, I'm addressing the sick practice of wrestlers inducing blood during matches. I'll just add, for the many years I was a pro wrestler I never cut myself. This sick practice is called "gigging" "juicing"聺 "color"聺 "blading." All you need to do is Google any of these terms to confirm its authenticity.

For a short period of time during the late 80's this was stopped due to the AIDS epidemic. Unfortunately, it started up again a short time later. Sadly, many wrestlers feel this practice is a tradition, and feel a kinship to the business if they perform this.

Simultaneously, today, we have teens, for a variety of emotional reasons, who cut themselves. I can only see a kind of glorification, and acceptance, of this practice if children and teens see this performed by wrestlers who are now major TV, and film, celebrities.

In any other industry this practice would be condemned by Public Officials. Why have I not heard any argument against this backward, dangerous, unhealthy, antisocial behavior, from anybody?

Senator Charles Schumer, do you have the courage to stop this sick practice, or at least begin a dialogue to why this is still being performed in front of children?

Phillip Thies aka Damian Demento seems to think that his opinion of the wrestling business carries some sort of political weight. For a guy who was basically a career jobber/curtain jerker, he seems to have an axe to grind. This is no more different than taking your kid to see a movie and seeing an actor getting shot or stabbed. We have become so desensitized by violence, that it is not really a big deal anymore. It seems to me that this guy is trying to resurrect his name because half the people who watch wrestling don't have a clue who he is. If that is his opinion on the subject, then you have to respect the man's opinion. Personally, I just think that he is trying to put himself over and look like some kind of hero, like he is doing all of the 'boys in the back' some kind of favor. I bet the 'boys in the back' would tell him to go and crawl back into his hole of career mediocrity from which he came.

i agree cuase it is somethin kida bad for little children but it would take away somethin that kinda makes wrrstling

Notice he never complained when he had a well paid job in WWE.

Children who watch wrestling largely believe it is real..so they arnt going to know that the wrestlers are cutting themselves, so they wont be encouraged to practise it themselves. All the fans on Y!A know about blading, yet we dont go around slashing at our foreheads.

I think think this is just another example of heath and safety gone mad. These guys know how to blade properly, and they are tested for blood diesese regularly, so whats the problem?
