Can I take legal action?

Okay, to make a long story short, I own a barber shop and an employee told people that I was running it illegally and it was going bankrupt when in fact none of that is true and I can prove it. She got all of my customers addresses and sent them letters when she quit to let them know that she opened up her own shop. She also told my customers to leave the pay to the order of part blank and then wrote her name in instead of my shops name and never in 25 years have customers wrote the checks to the personal operator. I have 2 copies of those checks from my clients that have her name on them and I expect a lot more. What can I do to stop these people from harming my business further? Is there any legal action I can take? Thanks in advance

Well, the part about getting their addresses and then mailing them letters is probably ok from a legal standpoint.

But if you're saying you have proof that she embezzled money from your company with those checks, absolutely get on that! It's criminal and you have all sorts of recourse through both criminal and civil courts.

The downside is you'll be asked how this wasn't noticed immediately from an accounting standpoint, but an attorney should be able to guide you through that one.

Yes, she has committed fraud, and libel. See a laywer, or a free legal service if you have one nearby.
