Is it expense deductible for a company ? |
Hi, I am in Australia If your personal name is on the residential lease you can sublet to the company and invoice the company for GST free rent. The company can claim a deduction for its rent expenses but there will be no GST credit. You should base the rent charged to the company on a reasonable commercial basis for the floorspace area, i.e. what a business at arms length to you would be expected to pay. Document any information and workings regarding this estimation. The ATO has always been a little 'thingy' about rental or other expenses, in relation to residential properties. If it is a home base business, the office space may be claimed. My husband is an independent contractor based out of our house. We use Turbo Tax and it runs us through the process. your rent can be claimed as a deduction, but apportioned. |
