How do you start a website?

my parents r gonna pay me to make a website for their business. how do i get the address? u know, like how do i reserve the www.whatever.com thingy? also, where or how do i get graphics and such? how do i decorate and add text to the website? any help appreciated! 10 points for the most helpful and in detail answer!

To get the Domain Name (www.whatever.com), use a Domain Registration Service, such as GoDaddy, or I know Yahoo has one. Google this and you will find charts and such that compare all of these services.

To get graphics, well, you will have to make those. Adobe Fireworks is good for this. If you would like to try a new service (free), it is called Aviary. It can be found at a.viary.com (you might need to get an invitation. To do this, go to inviteshare.com)

As for making the actual website, you really have a lot of options. I would suggest Adobe Dreamweaver or Adobe GoLive. There are freeware versions as well, although I cannot think of them off the top of my head. These will allow you to add text, styles, etc. You might want to read a short article or two on HTML and CSS (it'll be a pain in the butt at first, but trust me, it is a really great skill to know, even just for personal use).

If you prefer not to learn HTML and CSS (I can't blame ya), you can try this: www.wix.com. It allows you to make Flash websites, all for free, all online. Keep in mind that Flash websites can be a little annoying for a business, unless they are done very classy.

The address is called a domain name. You can purchase them from any number of domain name registrars.

If you want custom graphics, you'll have to create them yourself with an image editor like GIMP or Fireworks. In lieu of that, hire a graphic artist.

you could use a software program(publisher MSoffice) and then upload to http://x10hosting.com you can buy a domain (www.whatever.com) from them too.

you need to learn html. then register a domain and get a host. godaddy.com is a good source to get both.
