Are calls from the "local Yellow Pages" a scam?

I operate a small retail business in Chandler, AZ. I keep getting calls there purporting to be from "Your Local Yellow Pages" asking me to update information. I did it several times, and that's all they ask. They don't try to sell anything, and they don't try to get me to give any information other than my address and business phone number, and any fax #'s.

So here's the thing: They call every freaking week, sometimes twice a week. I finally said "I've already updated information with you goodbye" but they keep calling. One call I said "You guys need to quit calling me, I've updated my information dozens of times" and she said "we've never called you before" so there's something fishy going on here. What I'm guessing is that they're an information harvesting company keeping their records updated so that they can send me more junk mail. I don't feel threatened or anything, just extremely bothered. Is this happening to anyone else? Have you heard of it? Yellow Pages rep here?

Be very careful. I never give out my information. This could be a spam or a mailing list compilation company. It could be identity theft or marketing companies. You never know. It is best to be safe than sorry.

I have an 'agent' at the yellow page company. If someone calls me, I just tell them to contact my agent.

What it is phoning you is telemarketing companies who try and trick you into buying there products like listings on www.the-internet-yellowpages.com . They tell you that they are calling to update cause you have already had a listing with them, but what it really is is that they bought your information from the credit card companies and posted your info on there site awhile earlier without your knowledge. Then they try and trick you into "confirming" your listing for the next year by participating in a verbal contract (which you dont realize it is till its too late) and then your stuck having to pay it when the invoice arrives. Next time they call, just tell them your 'not interested, and to please take me off your list'. Be nice to them or they will keep calling. Also, the reason you would be getting so many calls is because that means multiple companies have bought your info and they are each trying to trick you.
