Would you get your Pet Supplies from someone local who would deliver to your home or work?

Hi there!
I am trying to get a homebase pet suppliy business going. Not only do I want to sell on E-bay ( a lot harder than it looks it may take me a while) but I was also thinking of having a delivery service. I was thinking of going no more than 40 miles from my home. And I would deliver to your work or home,. I think that I would have to have a delivery fee because of gas prices. I am not sure what that will be yet. Do you run a business where you deliver to peoples homes/work?? What do you charge?? How do you advertise??? Would you pay for this service?

I was thinking of advertising on my SUV. I would have a sign on my back window with the name of my company, phone number & Email address and saying Delivery available, How can I help you? . Do you think that I should have the web site too. Or do you think I am saying too much! Thanks for your help! Any ideas or suggestions would be great!
Jennifer

Yes, web site and advertising are a good idea. Don't give up on your idea.
People with large companies often rent plants. I've heard of people hired to care for fish tanks also. I don't see why people wouldn't hire someone to deliver to pets. Rich people and the home bound (handicapped or elderly) especially would be good clients-see what you can do to cater to them. Be sure to research and see what would work in your area.
Also-diversify! Would you be willing to poop-scoop the yard? Walk dogs? Clean fish tanks or fish ponds? Help set up a fish pond, then care for it for a monthly fee? Build dog houses? Clean bird cages? Care for pets whose owners are on vacation? What about bathing or doing flea treatments?
Would any businesses or schools or nursing homes want to "Rent a pet"? I read about a program where women all chip in monthly for a membership (I forget what they called it) and then when they go out to exercise, the organization loans a large, trained dog to go with them and protect them. They don't get attacked and the dog gets exercised too! The article said it was very successful and there was a waiting list, they were planning to double the number of dogs. In a city where it's dangerous for a woman to go out alone--this is a great idea! I don't know all your interests, but if you keep up with the news and happenings in your area, talk to lots of different people, etc, you can be sure there are needs that you could fill.
Be sure to be environmentally friendly and advertise that also.
Good luck. Live well and do good.
