Web Page Security?

I am trying to register to a web site, however, the "encryption" part of it, the web address does begin with https, but there is a line over the "lock" symbol, saying that web site is unauthenticated? is this something to be concern about? and the web site/business that i am registering is located in an another country. thanks

That is mean the website is encrypted and there's no third party can access the website , only you and the website . but I recommend you download the McAfee SiteAdvisor. It alerts you about a bad website :

1. Green color is for all safe web sites.

2.Yellow color is web sites that after entering your email address, will send you a lot of spam mail. And downloads from a yellow web site will sometimes, change your browser settings.

3. Red color these are the most dangerous web sites, downloads from a red web site will have adware, and spyware included in the download.

4. Gray color is for web sites that have not been tested, so it's best to stay out of the gray web sites. And there are a lot of web sites, that site advisor will block automatically.

For https, there is a public and private key encryption. The public key is held by approved athenticators.

When a https request is done, a public key lookup is done with a the source of the public key. If the source of the public key is not listed in your computers list of public key providers, the web page will have a security issue.

You may need to update your windows to get the most current list of public key providers. You will also have to ask yourself "If I get this message, what do my customers get?"

You may want to get a public/private key pair that has been given to you by Verisign or another long term provider of these keys.

The general standard is that it takes a few days and a few faxes to get your identity verified by the companies that issue their blessing that your website is who you really are.

If you get a https page immediately, that means that they didn't go through the process to identify your company as they should have.
