Can I have my website transfer to another address?

I have a personal website for my small business. While I am working on the site can I have it set up in such a way that anyone who types in my www address-- it will automatically forward to another site not owned by me?

I am not talking about a link but a automatic transfer to a different website www address.

If so, how would this be done?

There are two different ways to use your website address. You can use the 50MB of webspace provided to you with the purchase of your website address to upload a site you have created. Or, you can redirect your website address to another website address, so that when anyone types in your website address it will automatically redirect them to another address. If you have purchased the base package of our domain name registration option (.com/.net/.org), you can set up URL Redirection. If you have purchased the upgraded webhosting package, you can use our servers to upload a site that you have created.

add a redirect command at the end of your web page address

When using Apache web server (usually with Linux hosting) .htaccess file can be used to redirect - this can normally be done much easier from a control panel if you have access to it.

If no access to a control panel, but FTP access, do the following.
Check to see if you have an .htaccess file in your root directory (public_html), if not, then
you can create one with a text editor and upload it there in ascii mode.

put this line in the file - from your domain, to the other domain

redirect 302 http://www.yourdomain.com http://www.domaintodirectto.com

(302 indicates temporary)

When you are ready to go live, just remove the line from .htaccess
