Food donations by individuals tax deductible? |
My husband can't find a place in our tax software to input food donations. Can individuals donate actual food and get a write off? Most of what I've read online addresses: If the donations are made to a qualified organization, they are deductible. Keep receipts of the items you donated. If the amount is less than $500, you report it on schedule A line 17. If it is over $500 you have to file form 8283. You also have to get the employer identification number or the taxpayer identification number of the donee. Your donation goes under noncash charitable contributions. Enter the name of the food bank and the amount you paid for the turkeys. |
