Should I call about job appl if they left out their phone number?

I applied through the unemployment office for a job with a Chiropractor, the application had to be mailed in. The business name and address was listed and had a contact person but they left out their phone number. Should I try to look up their number and call or could it imply they don't want phone calls? Or is that limited to if they specifically state no phone calls? I'm not really sure what to do.

They may have left it out on purpose to discourage calls, but if you try to look it up anyway it will show that you are resourceful. Since they didn't specifically say "no calls", then you should be fine, but I would still be sensitive to the fact that they may not want calls.

Call at a time of day which is likely to be more convenient - not first thing in the morning when people have only just got in, and not last thing when people will be rushing to get home. When you call, after you have introduced yourself say "is it a convenient time for us to have a brief conversation?" before launching into the reason for your call. If they say no, ask when you can call back, and if they sound reluctant to speak to you at all then don't push it.

If they didn't say no phone calls, go ahead and call. Just be polite, ask if they received your app. Don't press them for info at this point unless they offer it. I'd follow up again a week after your first call.

Generally, if it had to be mailed and they didn't list a phone number, then they don't want you to call. Just wait on it. Good luck.
