I live in UK had a very minor car accident with no damage to my car but a very tiny dirt-stracth to other car.

I offered to sort it out then and there but he insisted to go by Insurance company. He had my Car Reg-No, My correct mobile no and correct Name, (but I gave him wrong address). I asked for his details as well which he gave me. He said he wud call for more info later but never called me.This was in 02 Nov 07. Then I never heard from him so I never bothered either. Now nearly 5-months later, on 25 Feb 08 and my insurance co. send me a letter asking abt this incident as he is claiming off my Insurance. I have denied any recall of the incident and defended saying its easy to find my mob number and name and what car I drive, as I give my name and mob-no to many people who I meet just once (business purpose). Do I stand any chance..? What's best to do now..? Will my insurance go up? - What are pros and cons of this..? What happens next now..? advise appreciated. Thanks.

I can assure - there was no witness around.

Your insurance company will act on information received from you. If you tell them this didn't happen, then they will not pay out. The man then has the option of taking you to a small claims court. If you lose, your insurance company will not pay out as "it didn't happen" so there's nothing for them to pay for!
If it really was trivial, and you intended to pay out of your own pocket, then ask your insurance company what he is claiming for, and if it sounds reasonable, tell them that you will settle at that amount (full & final settlement!) out of your own pocket, if they confirm in writing to you that this will not affect your no claims bonus.
The other point of view of course is that you are guilty of causing an accident, you lied to the victim about your details, and you are now contemplating lying to your insurance company in order that the victim should be left holding the baby for your actions. Some people would think that this makes you less than honourable.

You cost the man money and lied to him, now is the time to come clean to your insurance company before you get in over your head! Do the right thing!

If he has a witness, you might get found out.

If not it would be your word against his.

Lying to an insurance company is not a smart thing to do. You'll go to jail. Just kidding. If they find you at fault then you'll loose your no claims bonus and your premium will go up.

I would deny all knowlege.!!

Tell them you dont recall it. Hes trying it on. At least you done the right thing at the time. also, you at he at the time should have reported the minor accident at the time.
Dont worry cos if you both didnt then he has not got a case.

as you exchanged details you should have reported it to your insurance dealer and told the police about it for records strait away. he could try and claim for a lot more then he should .it would put you in a difficult postulation. If he reported the accident to the police.

My best advice is to tell the insurance company about it and explain the situation to them or you could get your self in to trouble by not reporting it.

good luck

If you caused the accident or not then admit it to the insurance company. How would you like to be hit by an uninsured driver im sure you would be pissed off. Do the right thing and dont try to worm your way out of it.

deny all knowledge,.... also delete all yahoo ids ... change your name and address ... get rid of the mobile sell the car.... leave the wife and kids
