I would like to find out if my landlady is in the wrong here...we moved from her house because in her words...

...she has a very strict "no pay, no stay" policy and we were on a month to month. we got everything out and then switched the utilities. she was contacted the same day when we switched utilities due to the COLD weather here so she could have them back to her name without fear of frozen pipes. we believe that the city utility place told her our new address. she got our new landladys name from the addy and proceeded to call her and let her know horrible things about us (untrue) and how high are bills are (none of her business?) and in general was trying to get us thrown out in the cold. we are in iowa btw. we paid monies owed and discovered there is a privacy act to where she should not have been able to gain our new addy nor how much our bills are. WHAT CAN WE DO? we are very upset and want her to know in WHATEVER way we can that what she did was WRONG. she thinks she is some bigwig around here and can do whatever but basically if you mention her name people are like...UGH...her. advic

Contact a lawyer. You might be able to sue her for slander. She has no business renting houses. She deserves to be sued and lose some money and maybe get out of the rental business.

She should not have been able to get the new addy if you did not give it to her. Get a lawyer, she does need to face the music.

Hi Kim I have never rented so not good on this answer.... but my first thought was to call an attorney and get free advice from him or her to see if this is slander..which it does sound like it is. If you paid all your bills and left house in good shape she has had no reason to call new landlady.
