What Can We Do About the GAS Prices??????

As I passed the Gas station I normally do business with I became angry as I see the price per gallon reach an all time high at 3 dollars and some change I muffled under my breath, 鈥?This is enough of this Crap鈥?.

We are getting hosed at the pumps and our government is not addressing this problem to us the citizens.

So I decided to write this Blog and open this discussion. Here on Y/A you here all kinds of rants, but what are the facts and what is BS.

1.) Bush Controls the oil prices and he and his friends own the companies.
2.) The Politicians are getting so rich from the Companies and Lobbyists they wont do anything about it.

Ok what are the Facts? Fuel is the bloodline that keeps America moving. Our personal vehicles alone guzzle 140 billion gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel each year, up 3.2 percent from a year ago.

The United States consumes an average of 20 million barrels of oil per day; something like 178 million gallons of gasoline is consumed every day.

For every $10.00 you pump into your tank is about like this.

$5.00 for Crude Oil
$2.80 for refining
$1.40 Taxes
.75 Distribution and marketing
.05 Station markups

Most expensive per gallon:
London, UK: $6.65
Paris, France: $6.62
Copenhagen, Denmark: $6.51
Oslo, Norway: $6.48
Berlin, Germany: $6.42
Least expensive per gallon:
Caracas, Venezuela: $0.17
Tehran, Iran: $0.33
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: $0.45
Kuwait City: $0.79
Cairo, Egypt: $0.86

The United States is the world's third largest producer of crude oil. The biggest production region is around the Gulf of Mexico, and the largest producing state is Texas. The Gulf Coast region is home to two important producing areas: the Permian Basin, located in west-central Texas and eastern New Mexico, and the federal offshore portion of the Gulf. Other big oil-producing states include Alaska, Louisiana, California, Oklahoma and Arizona.
Even with the United States producing so much oil, it is still heavily dependent on foreign sources. It's that dependence that crippled the country during the oil embargo of 1973 and 1974. To make sure that this situation never happens again, the federal government formed the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). While most domestic oil is sent directly to refineries and then to the consumer market, some of it is held back and sent to the SPR.
As of May 24, 2007, the SPR stores about 690 million barrels of oil in underground salt caverns along the Gulf of Mexico. Not to mention Alaska.

We have thousands of wells capped off over billions of barrels of crude oil. So why are we buying it on the Global Market and paying $100 per barrel?

Why are we not refining SOME of our own oil?

Who is at fault? The enviromentalists, the Greedy oil companies?

Well first of all who owns the oil companies? .. Well, last time I check it was the stockholders, which would mean we do.

So the big question to me is, What can WE do?

Steve: believe me Im the last person that wants the government involvement. but these is in their hands, Im not asking for a hand out, but an answer

Walk.

Buy a bicycle !

Brace yourself, because I just heard gas is expected to go up to $4 a gallon. Isn't it interesting how the average price was only $1.46 when Bush first took office?

"We are getting hosed at the pumps and our government is not addressing this problem to us the citizens"

Why does everybody think that the government is the answer to everything?

Oh, and the Permian Basin in at least 400 miles from the gulf...

Wow. You brought that around full circle.

There is nothing we can do as individuals. We can all drive less, but the Chinese and India (Indians?) are in the fray.

buy an electric car and work toward self generation of electrical energy. its not that difficult with a few thousand dollar investment and it will pay of HUGELY down the line when oil goes through the roof

Stop electing morons who strangulate our supply.

BUSH IS NOT A STOCK BROKER HE DOESNT NOT CONTROL FUTURES PRICES, LEARN ABOUT THE STOCK MARKET PLEASE

I try to keep my consumption of gasoline as low as possible to keep Big Oil and Dubya out of my purse.
I've managed to keep it down to $20 a month for gas.

I walk, I use mass transit, and I do my errands in one trip as often as possible.
I try to do most of my grocery shopping while I'm at work in Manhattan so I don't use up a quarter tank of gas driving to and from the nearest Whole Foods.

The reason the European countries you listed were so expensive is because they heavily tax gasoline on purpose to promote public transportation use.

The reason those Muslim countries and Venezuela are cheap is because gasoline is subsidized. Believe it or not Iran actually lowered subsidies on gasoline last year and people rioted

To lower gas prices, you should drive less, sell your SUV and get a car with good gas mileage

The fact that its so cheap in countries that export oil/gas tells you that actually getting the substance out of the ground is not necessarily THAT expensive, the quality of gas is worse for them (maybe they still use leaded gas) or they are subsidizing their home markets with inflated prices for other countries.

The fact that its so expensive in Europe tells you that it is taxed in the same way we tax cigarettes.

Congress stands in the way of US oil production and the enviromentalists donate freely to many members of Congress.
What's Congress's answer,Gas taxes to force us to conserve.

We could open up the oil fields that are off limits now. We get about 8% of our oil from Saudi Arabia and they have a lot of influence over how much oil will come out of the Middle East and the price for the oil. We could tell the Saudies that as soon as our new wells come in we wont be needing their oil. You would see oil production start to go up and the price go down. But you wont see that happen because the American people are to busy blaming Bush and waiting for the government to do something.

Go with the flow, of gas that is! Look for gas to be $4.00 this summer. There is plenty of oil, we just need to build,[and won't] more refineries.

Hmm... Looks to me, that the Government of Venezuela has one darned good oil plan - perhaps we need to look to them for suggestions.

They have been making their own ethanol for years 鈥?not out of corn, but sugarcane. We have an abundant supply of sugar beets here on mainland U.S.A. with the ability to plant even more.

@ $0.17 per gallon, it MUST pay to use one鈥檚 own resources, rather than rely on the 鈥済ood graces鈥?of others.

Maybe we should just stay in tonight.........
