Satallite Internet:Will I need a router? |
So were getting Satellite internet soon from Hughesnet. Now Lets say I have my two towers(no not Barah-dur or Orthanc)side by side...were talking inches apart NOT in separate places in the house. If I wanted to have internet on one PC, while not having one on another, could it be done? Can I switch it back and forth? or will It be ABSOLUTELY Necessary to have a router. Cause I dont want to get one If i dont need one. If you wanted both computers to have access at one time or another, it would be simpler if you used a router. Even if you're only going to have one computer connected it's still a good idea to use a router for an always on internet connexion. It helps provide an added layer of protection for your computer, since only the router goes out on the internet, it will be the only thing visible from the internet. They come with firewalls built in and are set up to reject all unsolicited incoming traffic, that is no one can just call up your IP address and hook up to your computer. Routers now days are fairly inexpensive, usually less than $100. As far as connecting and configuring them, there really isn't that much to it. They all come with detailed but simple instructions and can be hooked up and configured in minutes with no prior experience. |
