Email abuse?

For the past 4 weeks I have been receiving spam emails which are both filthy and vile in content. These are (mostly) addressed directly to me via Outlook Express. They appear to be aimed at a male recipient which makes the matter even more confusing. My ISP instructed me to 'create rules for messages' by blocking certain words and phrases but, clearly, this hasn't helped.

This entire business is making me sick and these emails just keep coming. Can anyone help? Only serious replies, please.

You need a decent spam filter. I personally use http://www.spamihilator.com but there are other free ones out there. I find it has blocked around 99% of my spam.

Your not alone im getting the same type all you can do is just delete them dont open them ive just deleated loads but by time ive finished replying to you i will have loads more.

allow only emails through the filter from people in your contact list. it will possibly block some emails that you want that are not in your contacts...but you can always look in your spam if you need to.

take outlook out of the pc

You're lucky. I get about 200 a day.
Your ISP can often filter these out for you. Solutions that run on your system might just send your address back to more spammers. It's best to stop them before they come to your system.

what i do is check them and click spam and if not get a new fliter

First, use a decent mail reader (eg Thunderbird) rather than OE.

Then set up filters based on Keywords, originating IP, sender, recipient, etc., as well as the reader's built-in junk filter.

Until you can figure it out hon, delete unread. They might send you viruses too.

You can also create a new email account...I have 4. They're free...yahoo, hotmail, aol...etc.

Good luck.

You might consider setting up a 'disposable' email address which you will use for registering on sites and one that will be your public identity.

A free email address such as a Yahoo or Hotmail address is ideal for this purpose, both come with spam filtering. Yahoo comes with the ability to set up aliases that you can add and delete whenever you want to.

http://mail.yahoo.com
http://www.hotmail.com

You can then have a seperate email address for private communications, that you will only use for your friends and family. You must be strict and quite disciplined to only give that address to your friends and family and not to use it to register with sites for offers or the like. That address could be the one you have with your current ISP, but clearly you might need to choose a new address and inform your friends and family of the change of address.

An email address which is receiving spam is extremely difficult to make spam free since you will now be in the spammers databases. Since most spammers are part of organised crime gangs, they don't care if their communications are illegal, so getting off such lists is generally an imposible task. Never reply to spam emails because you are only reinforcing to the spammer that there is someone at that address.

My advice is to discard the address you have which is receiving spam and set up two seperate addresses, I like to call the private and public identity.

Guard the private one with your life and use the public one for everything else.

Think about using Yahoo for your disposable address, esspecially because of it's AddressGuard feature which is really good.

Don't use Outlook. Set up a new E-mail address (or 2 ) and use them instead. Enable filtering and Spam mark anything you don't like or want.

Blast it to microsoft and tell them it's not acceptable practice.
Also your internet service provider and lastly check the conditions of your firewall and securities etc. Good luck.
