WASHINGTON - Democratic and Republican congressional leaders reached a tentative deal Thursday on tax rebates of $300 to $1,200 per household and business tax cuts to jolt the slumping economy.

Congressional officials close to the negotiations said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio reached agreement in principle in a telephone call Thursday morning.

..how does this help the homeless and others with no permanent address? how about people who are married but separated?

Well according to the plan, people who PAY NO TAXES but earned a measly $3K (if I remember right) will still get the money. The plan is twisted from what it should be and won't help the economy much though there is help for businesses which is the only good part of the plan. I am a lower middle class single dad who can always use the money but if you want to truly help, you need to make a climate where businesses can and will thrive, create jobs and products that are affordable- both for Americans and for overseas consumers- the more we export and less we import, the lower the trade deficit- the more money our economy generates, the more taxes are paid (even at LOWER tax rates) and the budget deficit goes down-
I think this plan helps some of the people you mention in the short term where what we need is a plan to invigorate business which will have lasting benefits

It's an economic stimulus plan, not a fix the homeless problem plan.

Since we are already operating at a deficit, that means that we will have to borrow or print more money to pay for the "rebates". That also means that eventually, the middle class will be paying it back one way or the other.

The only thing this means is that people who file a tax return will get some kind of check. The poor will probably go out and spend it on extra stuff they need.....like gas for their cars. This of course means the fuel companies will get even richer.

The businesses will get a tax cut which means business owners will make more money.

As far as the homeless and others with no permanent address, it will not help them at all.

"The rich get richer and the poor get poorer."

As for my husband and I, we are in the middle class section of the world's economy. We will probably just put the money into our savings account.
