Company changed address & family member told my business to people?

I had not lived with my father for over a year and he moved to a new address two years ago. SOMEHOW, some of my bills were changed to his address and my father's girlfriend opened my bills. She then discussed my finances with her family and members of my family. I have contacted one particular company for over 2 years regarding what they did but have never received a response and they have sent me into collection.

Somebody please help me! I can't afford an attorney at this time and I am lost on what to do!

You might want to inform your father's girlfriend that it is a federal offense for her to open mail not addressed to her. If you want to be really nasty about it, inform the US Postal Service of what occurred.

Relative to the collection issue, I hope you documented your assorted attempts to contact the firm to which you owed money. Shame on them for not replying to you. Sad to say, you may need legal assistance in this case to 'encourage' the firm involved to straighten up its act. A 'nudging' letter from an attorney isn't that costly as a first option.

Sounds like a communications problem.

Find a telephone and call the company to request an uptodate statement of account that you'll pay right away....etc...
