How do i register / own a web address, for example for setting up a small business?

I've tried both .co.uk and .com versions of the web address I want and neither of them take me to a site, so I hope that they aren't already owned / exist.

Once there, on there page you'll see a search box which you type in the domain you want and press the button to check to see whether or not it's available.
If it's already been taken, it'll also give a list of alternative suggestions that are available.
Check the box to select the one you want, press the "CONTINUE" button, then all you gotta do is fill in your details + have your Debit card / Credit card to hand.

You need to get in touch with a registrar. Just because they do not respond through a browser, does not imply that they haven't been reserved.

Log on to www.ukreg they will not only check to see if the web name you want is free, they will also register it in your name for 2 years for a small fee.
They also have web hosting and e-mail hosting you can add to your new web site name.
Then just use a web designer (like Front Page) to set up your site and post it on the web
