If you were scammed, contact the District Attorney in your county and file theft charges. Investigators will be able to track the man with his phone number.

Also, it would be easy to set up a sting. The police can call, pretending to be a customer, then bust him when he shows up to do an estimate.

You have been scammed, phone the police, and smarten up next time.

The police and your lawyer will be able to find him from the yellow pages ad and the phone number, don't be concerned about that. File your complaints.

Post his name and number here so others don't get scammed.

Call ZOning and permits in your county; if he's legit, they can help you locate his business.

First, you mentioned this guy had a company name. Every company legally doing business in the state of Iowa has to be registered with the Iowa Secretary of State. Go to the Secretary of State website at: http://www.sos.state.ia.us (click on search databases - Iowa corporations), and search for this guy's company on their database. If it is a legitimate business, the database will give you an address (hopefully a valid one). If the business does not appear in this database, it is very likely you were scammed. You should also go to your county clerk's office or city clerk's office and find out if he is registered there(they may or may not require contractors to register -- this differs by county/municipality) .

If you were scammed, you should then report the incident to the local police department and the FBI. If you are out a large sum of money, consider using a private detective.

Check with the local building and roofing supply places in town, UBC, LOWES,HOME DEPOT ETC. that is probably where he gets supplies and they should know how to find him or where he is working if they have delivered to him recently.

Okay you might be up the creek.
However I would try the following first.

First go the Courthouse, and see if there is a record on him. This is public record, and everyone has access to it.

Second, go to the police and see if there is a record. Again public record... Easy way to get an address.

Third, get an attorney. Though he may not be able to help until you find him.

Forth, depending on how much money he sank you for. You might want to consider a private detective. They have legal ways of getting things the rest of us can not.

Fifth, of course. all this is assuming, you still have not made contact, contact your local Better Business Bureau.

Good luck,
Vic

If he registered his business name (which if he is a scammer he probably didn't) you can get his registered office at the companies branch for a few dollars.

Lawyers have people who can find this information for you once you hire them.

Did you try a reverse Phone number look up?

Ps. Don't give some one $4000.00 if you don't even have an addresss.
