Can I apply for a sales tax registration for a business I run out of my apartment, or is that illegal?

Is it even legal to run a business out of my apartment? I know that a tax certificate says "This Certificate Must Be Prominently Displayed At Your Place of Business" What if my business is run from home? Is it legal to list my apartment as my business address? Please, any answers would be appreciated.

This should have been the first thing that you did before starting an at home business. obtain a factitious business license with your business name and address where it is located. I recommend for you to obtain a PO box for a mailing address for your business. In California, they just past a no smoking law in any business. so if you are a smoker, it is against the law to smoke in you own residence if it is used as a place of business.

In this state you can, as in most states, they want the taxes from your proceeds.

it may be illegal to use the apartment address without checking with your landlord 1st

as far as your business you need to make it incorporated for several reasons;
to be straight up with taxes
so if your company is sued they can't come after you or your personal properties or insurances that cover them

as long as there is no public traffic in and out of your place ,
I wouldn't bother to mention it to the landlords....how would they know/or care if you only got mail to a company name delivered to you ?
