How do I register a site name for a small business?

I am thinking about starting a small business from home doing graphic arts but, I do not have much extra money right now. I have come up with a really cool name for my business that is not yet taken as a website address. Is there a cheap or temporary way that I can save this idea until I can afford to officiallly register it and also, how do I do this when I am ready??
