Moving from Canada to US when you own a business?

I plan on moving from Canada to the US but I own a business right now in Canada.

How will it affect my business? It's just a registered business I have no employees (I work online)

But the current address is where I live now so I'm confused over what to do since my business is my income.

I also work on-line using my laptop, being it in Canada, USA or Europe where I travel very often. My company is incorporated in Canada, I have no employees.

Providing you are moving to USA as a permanent resident, with a Green Card, all you need to do is register your business in your new place of residence. Since USA and Canada do have a treaty to avoid double taxation you will be taxed in Canada for an income you generated while there and the rest according to US IRS.

If you are just moving there without a Green Card, I suggest you consult your lawyer, for working and generating an income in USA while being a visitor is not looked upon very favorably and you may close the door to yourself for some 10 years in the future.

Your local immigration office should also be able to answer your questions according to your particular situation. All the best to you in the land of our friendly neighbor and do not forget to come back to spend some of your money with us.
