Choose a business related problem that interests you and/or is related to your current work environment. Using the University of Phoenix library, and selected readings, complete a 700-1,050-word synopsis of a peer-reviewed article that utilizes statistics to solve this business related problem. The synopsis will include a discussion of the specific problem, the research methodology used, the quantitative and qualitative tools employed in the study, and the benefit and limitations of the research study. Address what additional types of quantitative research you would recommend to further enhance the validity and reliability of the research findings? You can find a link to the Library here: https://mycampus.phoenix.edu/ My subject would be "Efficiency in the Work Environment" or something similar relating to measures of business efficiency. What work environment can't benefit from improved efficiency, and what business wouldn't want increased efficiency of operations? Now, how do we measure efficiency? Well, of course, businesses do this everyday in one form or another, but their methods could probably stand a lot of improvement in many cases. You will certainly have to apply the mathematics of probability and statistics to design computer models of many business practices and procedures, especially where people and "human engineering" are a part of the equation. Human engineering is in general the study of how man interfaces to machines. When you go to McDonald's for a burger, take notes on exactly how your order is taken and processed, how the employees interact with machines and each other to deliver your order to you. Can you see things that could be done more efficiently, especially considering what new modern technology could be applied? How would you build a computer model of a McDonald's restaurant operations and have it be able to operate in "real time", meaning that not only can the computer model be run off line to test new store layouts etc, but it can actually connect to sensors placed in and around the restaurant that are collecting current data on order taking, order delivery, entree cueing and choke points, supply inventories, employee point to point movements, man/machine interactions, employee communications, and the like. The real time computer model could also feed back real time information to the employees that in itself would improve efficiency. I do hate the UOP library, it is way too hard to search, so i cheat! Click on the ask a librarian link and they get back with you quick and give search terms to use and what database to use to find the info. I have found that they usually have already gotten questions on the same paper and know exactly what to look for. |
